Individual Therapy- Frequently Asked Questions
I don’t have a mental illness. Is Individual therapy right for me?
Therapy can be a support- a place to process your life and a nonjudgmental place to express your feelings. Our therapists aren’t interested in diagnosing you. We have each needed support at times to work through and understand why obstacles were holding us back in our lives. We know the value of being seen and heard in order to feel more secure, confident, and alive. It can help to get another perspective and not feel so alone with your feelings. There are many reasons to get support from a licensed clinician.
Our individual therapy sessions can help you identify things that might be holding you back from living a fulfilling life. Most especially those things you never thought existed. Therapy can give you a space to work through life’s challenges with a counselor that can provide nonjudgmental and caring support. Our licensed clinicians can give you an empathetic ear to sort through your thoughts, feelings, and behavior. We can also help you gain awareness, clarity, and tools that will provide relief and improve the quality of your life and relationships. We want to help you move from surviving to thriving with vitality and aliveness.
How will individual therapy affect my schedule?
We make it easy! We have online scheduling and convenient appointment times to fit your schedule. Your sessions will be tailor made to suit your lifestyle and needs. You’ll be assigned a dedicated therapist that will work with you at a pace best suited for you.
How is therapy different than talking to my friends and family?
While friends and family mean well and may be supportive of us and our efforts to improve our situation, they may not be able to provide the objective, nonjudgmental support that a therapist can. Your therapist is a licensed clinician with training to listen and support you in making the changes that work for you. Often times family and friends will give advice and tell us what they would do in a similar situation instead of helping us reflect on what we want and need. Sometimes, we are dealing with a personal matter or having relationship difficulties and do not feel comfortable sharing that with those who are close to us.
“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.” ― Fred Rogers
